What?

What Shall We Discover Today? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

It’s as much a mystery to me as it is to you. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธย And that the fun of it.

For my Paris Photo Chronicles, I head into Paris and see what the city serves up for me. In the same spirit, I open myself up to the Lakes and record what happens as best I can.

A warning, if one is necessary: this is not your typical ‘cute Lake District photo’ blog. As with Paris, there are thousands of people publishing pretty photos of these ever-so well-known fells and valleys. That’s fine, and I do the same, but hopefully with a difference.

My Lakeland Chronicles are a place where I filter my images that come to my smartphone lens and ideas that cross my mind through a lifetime’s worth of very human experience.

I Sabify my photos. If you don’t know what that means, look at any of my photos: they’ve been Sabified. And they’re all square. I can tell you why one day if you like. If you don’t like my style, that’s fine; there are plenty of styles for everyone.

My texts are all Sabified too. By that, I’m talking about two things: the way I write and the things I write about. You can discover the first by reading any of my Lakeland Chronicles, but try a few, because they are all different and might take a while to get used to.

For the second, as with Paris, it will be a glorious hotchpotch of hopefully fascinating Lakeland factoids coupled with pithy personal anecdotes and copious curiosities as I find them. There will also be perplexing attempts at poetry, the occasional leap into improbable fiction and… things I haven’t even thought of yet. How does that sound?

As with all my photos, and texts too come to think of it, I aim to create something that inhabits the hinterland between often grim reality and a magical fantasy land. It is what it is and if you like some my stuff, so much the better!

I’ve had big, fancy, expensive and above all heavy cameras in the past. I don’t bother with those anymore. All my photos are taken on a smartphone.

The photo isn’t made in the camera; it’s made in the head and the heart filled with a lifetime of experience. It’s the same with text. Each photo you take or word you place is the culmination of your entire existence in its present form up until that point. Everything has been leading to this moment. That’s worth thinking about and maybe even celebrating.

So, you’ll find pictures of mountains here, for sure, but also tired feet and scones laden with cream and jam – or should that be jam and cream? I could get into trouble with that one! And no, the cream and jam goes on the scones, not the feet…

You’ll get texts about treks up hillsides in heat and hail but also irreverent observations on the rambling visitors to the region, Lakeland locals’ idiosyncrasies, and how I try to make sense of it all. I hope you enjoy my take on this exceptional corner of the country and maybe I’ll meet you halfway up (or down) a hill sometime.ย ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿฅพ
